Learning to read begins long before a child starts kindergarten. Reading to children is the best way to prepare them for kindergarten. Any child from birth to entering kindergarten can participate in this simple early literacy online challenge-it's as easy as ABC!
The goal is to share 1,000 books during these early childhood years.
Sharing a book can include singing a book together, talking about the pictures,
reading it cover to cover, or any other way that works for you and your child.
There are special incentives along the way for you and your child. You will also receive a special gift after you have reached the milestones of 100, 500, and 1,000 books.

If your child was previously registered in the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at either library, she/he will need to re-register for this online program. Please call either Central Library (temporarily at the Whittier Depot) 562-567-9900 or Whittwood Branch at 562-567-9950 with any questions.
